Introduction to NASMM
June 26, 2024Loss and Lightening Up
August 28, 2024The National Association of Senior and Specialty Move Managers (NASMM) A+ Accreditation is the highest level of professional achievement for our Association. Having this designation means that we have met stringent standards, have been evaluated by a panel of peers who have met these requirements as well and we continue to expand our knowledge through education. KRB Move Management is the only NASMM A+ Accredited Company in the region and I do take the time to tell Customers about this achievement when I meet them during the consultation. I want them to know who is coming into their home and touching their belongings. Everyone on our team is background checked and our employees are bonded and covered by our general and professional liability and workers compensation policies. Some Customers haven’t moved for many years (for many it has been decades) and I want them to feel comfortable with who is in their home helping them with their move.
One of the ways A+ accredited members earn continuing education is through teaching and attending expert sessions through NASMM training opportunities. Throughout the year, NASMM provides virtual training across a variety of relevant topics and once a year, senior move managers convene for 3 days of intensive training on topics such as marketing, accounting, aging studies, real estate, ethics, and business practices.
One of the highlights of the conference is the Table Talk exercise. We are randomly placed in groups to answer the “what would you do?” scenarios created by the NASMM Ethics Compliance Commission (NECC). The NECC is a small group of NASMM A+ accredited company owners who address any complaints that surface between members or by Customers served by the membership. An ethics course is one of the first courses required before becoming a member of NASMM and we are all bound by the NASMM Code of Ethics. I include a copy of the Code of Ethics in my consultation folders for Customers to review. I am proud to be part of an organization that stands behind an ethical code to treat Customers with respect and operate our businesses with integrity. In fact, this year, I applied to be part of the NECC and was selected to join the Commission. Several of the members have been members of NASMM for many years beyond my 7+ and they are women I admire. I am honored to be among them and look forward to helping with the education that comes out of internal and external complaints. Rather than being punitive, the NECC often looks to creating best practice guidelines so that the issue in question may be avoided in the future.
One of the most striking things evident at a NASMM conference is how friendly and collegial everyone is. Almost without exception, those attracted to our industry are helpful and sincere people who want to share and raise each other up. Although credited to JFK and used with respect to the economy, the saying “a rising tide lifts all ships” can be applied to NASMM members as well. We gather to learn and share best practices to elevate the important work we are doing to serve others.
